On 28 June 2017, the Minister for Local Government and Planning directed the Tasmanian Planning Commission to undertake an assessment of draft Planning Directive No. 6 – Exemption and Standards for Visitor Accommodation in Planning Schemes (draft Planning Directive).

The draft Planning Directive applies to all interim planning schemes, the Flinders Planning Scheme 2000 and the Sullivans Cove Planning Scheme 1997.

The Commission publicly exhibited the draft Planning Directive from Saturday, 12 August 2017 until Monday, 11 September 2017. The public exhibition was re-advertised from Wednesday, 4 October 2017 until Wednesday, 18 October 2017 extending the period for written representations. 21 representations were received.

On 14 May 2018, the Commission finalised its report on the draft Planning Directive and forwarded it to the Minister.
